Whether our clients produce cheese, fermented milk products like yogurt, or (lactose-free) milk products, we have the solutions to help them succeed: from cultures, enzymes and cheese ripening & bio-preservation solutions to residual antibiotic milk testing.

The DSM Biotechnology Center (DBC) in Delft is the main center for biotechnological Research and Development (R&D) within DSM. The DBC steers the biotechnology competence within DSM and is responsible for the realization of biotechnological innovations and the development of new sustainable products and cost-effective production processes

The DSM Culture House in Wageningen is part of the DBC. The team you work in is responsible for the support towards production. Meaning that they provide the correct recipes for production. As a Technician Fermentation Process you play an important role in the development and technical execution and interpretation of fermentation experiments. You independently perform experimental work in the laboratory (including bench scale) and sometimes also on pilot plant scale. You will have defined tasks in a larger project team responsible for delivering the project result.

Key-responsibilities

  • Conducting fermentations of microbial products (starter cultures / probiotics) and analysis of the (final) products.
  • Support the fermentation scientist and execute experimental studies in an efficient manner that meet project goals and timelines.
  • Optimize current fermentation and downstream processes.
  • Be able to understand technical issues and the impact of various factors on yield and viability of cultures.
  • Interact (in word and actions) in multi-disciplinary teams: fermentation, formulation, freeze-drying, application and analysis.
  • Processing and interpretation of experimental data, write experimental reports (English), and in-house presenting of technical data.

  • You Bring

  • A BSc (HBO) or MBO degree in Life Science, Biochemical or Food process Engineering, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology or related fields;
  • Preferably experience with fermentation of microbial products;
  • Being critical and analytical, having fun working in a laboratory;
  • Hands-on mentality showing initiative: combining skills, creativity and experience in not so obvious solutions and approaches;
  • Eager to work in a team and able to quickly adapt and respond effectively to changes;
  • Enjoy collaborating with Operations to improve the fermentation process;
  • Take ownership to get the work done, you are pro-active, curious and eager to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexible, precise and stress resistant.
  • Please note that for this role we will be looking at candidates that are already located in The Netherlands.
