Asset Allocation Modelling Specialist / Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Investment Office (IO) is the Centre of Excellence for General Account Investments of NN Group. Within IO, The Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) and Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA) team prepares the ALM/SAA studies for NN Group’s Dutch Business Units, advises and reviews the ALM/SAA studies for NN Group international Business Units. The team translates NN Group’s investment strategy plus business unit specific requirements into a suitable strategic asset allocation. The asset allocation has a key impact on the actual investment outcome and investment returns of NN Group and needs to keep a stable Balance Sheet at all times. The team is the centre of expertise for Solvency-capital and Investment Capital Generation related topics. The team has two main areas of focus:

  • An analytical and modelling part that involves in depth research and data analysis of the asset universe and the balance sheet structure of a business unit
  • A 1st line investment related part that involves Manager Selection, Monitoring and Evaluation for certain public market investment strategies
  • Your responsibilities

    You have a background in financial/investment risk and insurance balance sheet analysis with which you strengthen our team on the ever more challenging tasks. Capital markets, regulations (Solvency 2), accounting standards (IFRS) and responsible investment topics like climate change are getting more complex and so does the task of performing ALM/SAA studies for the Insurance Business Units of NN Group. Your main responsibilities will be

  • To develop and maintain the existing SAA models that produces the SAA study output which is supported by presentations, data quality assurances and detailed documentation
  • To perform empirical research in investment and risk related topics and apply it to the asset universe and asset allocation within the insurance balance sheet investment framework
  • To assist in defining and calibrating the risk/return metrics used in SAA studies

    You will work in a team of 4 professionals, including yourself, that each have their area of attention. With the challenging dynamics in:

  • Financial markets (economic turning points and changing macroeconomic policies)
  • The regulatory environment (solvency 2)
  • Changing accounting standards (IFRS)
  • And ESG challenges like climate change
  • The team is ultimately responsible for the ALM/SAA studies for NN Group Dutch Business Units and also advise & review ALM/SAA studies for NN Group international Business Units. This means as team we:

  • Share opinions and gather information on financial markets and economic environment
  • Provide market views input for setting the Investment Strategy and Investment Planning
  • Identify market opportunities / market risks to optimize capital generation of the portfolios
  • Are involved in the Asset Manager Selection / Monitoring / Evaluation for specific public market asset classes
  • Who you are

    You bring a minimum of 5 years working experience. Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of data science techniques, with a clear understanding of all major investment asset classes covering public and private fixed income, equity, property and derivatives. You have experience and understand an insurer’s balance sheet, capital and risk metrics. You have exceptional analytical and programming skills. You have the ability to express and communicate your work clearly, both written and verbally. You are dedicated and result driven with a focus on team work, and have the ability to be an internal consultant. You have a good knowledge of generic asset class characteristics and are able to analyse and understand actual investments, like the difference between listed instruments with benchmarks and specific unlisted and project deals without benchmarks. You have an affinity for responsible investment related topics like climate change and its impact on investments. You are a team player that can bring the team of specialists you work with to higher level and you have good communication skills that allows you to translate a complex message into easy to understand concepts. You are fun to work with, you drive excellence and energise people. It goes without saying that:

  • You’ve got a relevant masters’ degree (science, engineering, mathematics or econometrics) and exceptional programming and data analysis skills
  • You have experience in day to day modelling of large insurer’s balance sheet and its key metrics
  • You have good overall fixed income knowledge across the major categories and experience in analysing less liquid categories such as loans and mortgages
  • You have knowledge of Solvency 2 and IFRS would be a preference. Analytical & problem solving skills including an eye for detail and accuracy
  • You have excellent skills in Dutch and English, both verbally and written
